Bituminous Roofing Membranes
- Bituminous roofing membranes represent a major portion of today's roofing and have a strong record of reliability. JM offers over 150 years of experience with these systems. There are two major types of bituminous roofing systems.
-
Built-Up Roofing Membranes (BUR)
- With BUR roofing systems, the waterproof membrane is field-fabricated with layers of bitumen alternating with plies of reinforcing felts and appropriate protective surfacing. The reliability of BUR is enhanced by the redundancy of the plied-in layers of roofing felts.
-
Modified Bitumen Membranes
- By modifying premium-grade asphalts, JM has developed formulations that enhance the asphalt's overall weatherability. By combining these modified asphalts with nonwoven polyester or fiber glass reinforcements, JM produces waterproofing systems that exhibit tremendous strength, elasticity and weatherability. The systems feature either SBS or APP membranes.
-
TPO Roofing — Single Ply Roof System
- JM TPO is one of the latest single ply, flat roofing materials on the market. The current membrane formulations are reinforced with a polyester fabric and manufactured using an ultraviolet-resistant thermoplastic polyolefin formulation. TPO from JM comes in several thicknesses. It is designed for use in mechanically fastened and adhered roofing applications in new, re-roof and re-cover roof constructions. It is fire and chemical resistant and contains UV inhibitors for added longevity

PVC Single Ply Roofing System
- Johns Manville PVC roofing materials are a highly-engineered, flexible, thermoplastic membrane manufactured using an ultraviolet-resistant polyvinyl chloride and a DuPont™ Elvaloy® KEE (ketone ethylene ester) formulation. It provides excellent weathering characteristics, high tensile strength and long-term flexibility. It also exhibits excellent resistance to harsh chemicals and industrial pollutants.
- APP Modified Bitumen Roofing Membranes
- Johns Manville has developed formulations that enhance the asphalt's overall weatherability by modifying premium-grade asphalts. By combining these modified asphalts with non-woven polyester or glass fiber reinforcements, JM produces waterproofing systems that exhibit tremendous strength, elasticity and weatherability.
- APP membranes provide superior tensile strength while maintaining critical flexibility — even in the coldest environments. Additionally, with APP roofing membranes (coated with a proprietary blend of asphalt and atactic polypropylene), contractors now have an efficient mode of application by heat welding, making hot mopping unnecessary.
-
Single Ply Roofing Systems Membranes
- JM offers a comprehensive line of single ply roofing solutions. TPO, PVC and EPDM membranes all deliver excellent weatherability and long-term strength and flexibility, as well as excellent resistance to punctures and tears. In addition, JM's PVC is exceptionally resistant to chemicals, grease and UV light. With JM single ply roofing membranes, there are many choices to suit a variety of applications and needs.
-
The Environmentally Responsible and Energy-Saving Choice
- As part of a cool roof solution, our white TPO and PVC roofing membranes deliver high reflectivity and emissivity without an additional coating. This will keep your building cooler, reduce energy consumption and power bills, and minimize the "urban heat island effect". Many systems meet the EPA's Energy Star® and California's Title 24 guidelines and could qualify for LEED® credits in several categories.
Cleaner, Easier Installation in Many Applications
- Cleaner, wider sheets, ease of heat welding and flexibility in a wide range of temperatures are all reasons why contractors like working with JM single ply. Whether fully adhered, mechanically fastened or ballasted, single ply roofing systems deliver high performance in both new roof and re-cover applications
